DescriptionThe third annual Floral Parade and Battle of the Flowers took place on September 1, 1896. According to the official program, the parade consisted of "magnificently decorated private equipages", over two thousand bicycles decorated with flowers, and "the famous Olympic Bicycle Band on wheels." In the evening, a Grand Floral Ball was held at Convention Hall. Over one hundred thousand persons were expected to witness the event. The front cover pictures four oxen pulling a decorated wagon carrying young women in "emblematical" costumes with Saratoga Lake and mountains in the background.
